A paraprofessional at Golf School District 67’s Golf Middle School has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery of a child under 13, Morton Grove police said in a news release.
Police said officers responded on Feb. 9 to a Feb. 8 incident at the school, located on the 9400 block of Waukegan Road, after a report that the paraprofessional, Eugene Jo, chased a child down the hall and tackled the student to the ground, causing bruising to the student’s knees.
The child had been making noise with a saxophone mouthpiece and had been uncooperative with Jo’s attempts to take the mouthpiece away, police said.
“Jo then placed his hand on the back of the student’s neck and forced the student to go with him to the office,” police said in the department’s weekly news release.
Jo, 45, was arrested March 15, police said, and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Felony Review Unit approved felony charges. An arrest does not constitute a conviction.
