Harvey police said Friday a 26-year-old man is in custody after he confessed to police that he shot his boyfriend to death and buried the body in the yard of an abandoned home.

Police said they are working with state police in the investigation, and said the man made the confession to police after being stopped Thursday afternoon for an outstanding warrant issued by Chicago police.

Police said they later found the body of an unidentified man at an address in the 15800 block of Myrtle Avenue.

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, but information about the man’s identity was not yet available, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Charges have not been filed against the man in custody, believed to be involved in the domestic dispute, and a weapon believed to have been used has been recovered, police said.

“Our law enforcement agencies are committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this tragic incident,” police said in a news release.

Additional information about the case was not available Friday from police or Harvey officials.

Separately, the medical examiner’s office reported a homicide that occurred Thursday night in Harvey.

The identity of the victim was not available Friday, and the person suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the area of 151st Street and Lathrop Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11 p.m., according to the office.
