
A concert of Irish music is planned at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles.
The event, which will feature Irish baritone Gavin Coyle, flutist Carlyn Lloyd and pianist Jon Warfel, is part of the library’s Sunday Concert Series.
The performance, which is free to attend, will focus on folk and traditional music from Ireland.

Yorkville Christian School to hold open house
Yorkville Christian School is inviting families to its spring open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the school, 2001 Whitekirk Lane in Yorkville.
Families with students currently in fourth through 11th grade are invited to come see Yorkville Christian’s middle school and high school for sixth through 12th grades. The school is adding a sixth grade beginning next school year, officials said.
At the event, participants will hear from the principal, then there will be presentations covering spiritual growth, academics, technology, athletics, curriculum, financial assistance, college credit, IVCC partnership, transportation and more, school officials said.
Those at the open house will also be able to tour classrooms as well as the gymnasium, and also check out the Athletics and Clubs Fair, where they can meet coaches and club sponsors.

Kane 4-H Foundation to host pork chop dinner
The Kane County 4-H Foundation will host its 15th annual pork chop dinner and auction fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Prairie Events Center of the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles.
“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it helps support 4-H Youth Development programs in our communities, as well as other valuable University of Illinois Extension services,” said Bill Collins, treasurer of the Kane County 4-H Foundation and event co-chair, in a press release. “Last year, the annual event raised about $20,000, and the goal this year is to match that.”
Tickets are on sale now, with the choice of a two-chop dinner for $16, a one-chop dinner for $14 or a pulled pork sandwich dinner for $12. The pork will be prepared by the Elburn Lions Club and served by volunteers.

A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the door for an additional $1 per meal.
The event also features a silent auction of items and themed baskets donated by Kane County 4-H Clubs, Master Gardener volunteers, local Home and Community Education groups and other area supporters. Silent auction bidding ends at 7 p.m. at the event and then a live auction begins.
Literacy group seeking tutors
Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley will host a free tutor training workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. March 11, 13, 18 and 20 at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles.
Each trained volunteer will be matched with one adult learner, officials said. Volunteer tutors and their adult learners meet for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient, such as a public library.
Volunteers do not need to know a second language or have teaching experience to be successful, according to Literacy Volunteers officials. The workshop provides material and instruction so anyone can help, they said.

Oswego museum spotlights Roaring ’20s
A history program called “Chicago: True Stories of the 1920s” is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Little White School Museum, 72 Polk St. in Oswego.
During the event, speaker Martina Mathisen will portray a 1920s flapper named Flora who will discuss how fashion, crime and Prohibition mixed during the decade.
