A garage fire in Aurora on Sunday damaged a house and left its residents without a place to stay, officials said.
At nearly 1 a.m., firefighters responded to a call of a garage fire in the 600 block of Saddle Lane, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the attached garage of a one-story ranch home and discovered that the fire had also extended into the house, the release said.
The fire was put out before it could spread further, officials said in the release.
Eight residents, including two children, were displaced by the fire, according to the release. Officials said that Red Cross and the city of Aurora’s Victim Services were contacted to help the family find temporary housing.
The homeowner sustained a minor burn on his arm while attempting to fight the fire before crews arrived, and was treated at the scene, the release said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said.
