A Montgomery man was arrested Sunday evening after reportedly crashing into multiple vehicles and attempting to strike a pedestrian, according to a news release from the Yorkville Police Department.
At around 8:40 p.m., Yorkville police were dispatched to a business on the 1500 block of Corneils Road after a witness reported a black Toyota pickup truck crashing into multiple vehicles and reportedly trying to strike a pedestrian, the release said. Officers, upon arrival, found damaged property and several damaged vehicles, but the suspect vehicle had already fled.
Soon after, the vehicle was discovered about one mile east, off the roadway in a ditch on Corneils Road, per the release. It appeared the driver had lost control of the vehicle.
The Plano Police Department and Kendall County Sheriff’s Office helped the Yorkville Police Department locate the vehicle and suspect, the release noted.
From a preliminary investigation, surveillance video from the business showed the vehicle driving off the parking lot surface in what appeared to be an attempt to intentionally hit a pedestrian multiple times before crashing into two parked vehicles and then fleeing, the Yorkville Police Department said in the release.
The driver, identified as Thomas K. Betsinger, 50, of Montgomery, was found near the vehicle and taken into custody by the Yorkville Police Department, the release said. He was taken to the Kendall County Jail and booked on charges of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, driving under the influence of alcohol and attempted reckless homicide.
As of the afternoon of July 14, Betsinger was set to appear in court Monday evening for a pretrial release hearing, according to Yorkville Police.
