A driver connected to a shooting late Monday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood was wounded by police when his vehicle was pulled over for questioning, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., officers attempted to curb a vehicle connected to an earlier shooting in the 800 block of North Homan Avenue. The driver attempted to flee, spurring a pursuit where the vehicle struck a woman pedestrian and kept going then struck a CTA bus multiple times before coming to a stop.

When one of the officers attempted to place the driver into custody, their weapon discharged, striking the driver multiple times to the upper body, police said.

Officers at the scene rendered medical help, and the driver was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two officers were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries and the woman pedestrian was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai for injuries to the lower body.

A weapon was recovered from the the vehicle. The Investigative Response Team was called to the scene following the police-involved shooting, as well as the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duty for 30 days while the use of force is investigated.
