A man was killed and three female victims were wounded Wednesday afternoon when they were struck by gunfire in the heart of the Little Village neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

In the city’s latest shooting involving three or more victims, a 46-year-old man and three females — one 47, one 25-year-old and a third of unknown age — were standing in the 3400 block of West 26th Street just after 4:30 p.m. when they were wounded, police said in a preliminary statement.

The man, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body, was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The female of unknown age was taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition.

The 25-year-old woman was struck in the face and taken to Mount Sinai in fair condition. The 47-year-old woman suffered a wound to the arm and was taken to the hospital in good condition.

Police have grappled with an uptick in homicides this year. Through Friday, the city saw 119 homicides, 13 more than the same time last year, according to city data compiled by the Tribune.

Last Friday, three people were killed and a fourth critically hurt in a separate mass shooting in the city’s Garfield Park neighborhood, about four miles northwest of Wednesday’s shooting.
