More than 300 attendees took part in a yearly tasting event called Bites & Brews on April 30 at the Glen Club in Glenview.

“The 13th annual Bites & Brews brings tastes from 12 local restaurants — both new and old favorites — four local brewers and two wine vendors,” said Meghan Kearney of Glenview, executive director of the Glenview Chamber of Commerce.

“Thanks to our sponsors Glenview Bank & Trust and The Glen Club for making this event possible.”

Kearney, a longtime Glenview resident, said she loves to support the small business community.

And one way to do that was to include the event’s first environmental business partner, WasteNot Compost of Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood, a compost collector of items like paper and food recyclables.

“We’ve been doing this event for a long time and we’ve never had an environmental partner, so this is a great,” Kearney said.

“It’s amazing to have an environmental partner that can help make our event sustainable for the betterment of the entire community.”

Karen Shaddock-Young of Glenview helped to check in guests upon arrival.

Shaddock-Young volunteers because “I like to give back to my community so I volunteer in Glenview when I can,” she said.

Attendees at the paid event could sample fare such as mini seared ahi tuna tacos, a charcuterie spread, salted caramel brownie bites and beverages such as fresh fruit in cups poured over with sunset sangria by Yard House of Glenview.

“I think we have a great amount of choices (of restaurants in the Glenview and Wilmette environs),” Cerone said.

Referring to the construction on and around Glenview Road in downtown Glenview, Mossell said, “I live right near the downtown (of Glenview) and it’s kind of a mess right now but it will be interesting to see what comes out of it.”

“I hope they really thought about planning it well.”

Gordell talked about the new building on Glenview Road just east of the railroad tracks.

“That building right at the corner, right at the tracks, it seems like it could be a major (source) of congestion,” Gordell said.

Glenview Village Trustee Katie Jones was among local elected officials in attendance.

Jones said she “was beyond excited” about changes along Glenview Road.

“Our downtown is becoming vibrant and exciting,” Jones said.

“I’m excited to see what it’s going to be like in the next year.”
