A Glenview woman has been charged with felonies by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office for allegedly defrauding a statewide program that supports individuals with disabilities, according to a news release sent from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
Deborah Mazeika, 56, was charged by Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office on May 12 with two counts of a Class 1 felony charge of theft, one count of a Class 1 felony charge of vendor fraud and a Class 3 felony charge of forgery.
Each felony theft count and count of vendor fraud is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, according to the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. The felony forgery count is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Mazeika is accused of stealing more than $44,000 from the Illinois Home Services Program, which provides essential home services to thousands of Illinois residents with disabilities.
According to the release, Mazeika reportedly submitted false claims in order to receive payment from the state for services she claimed to have administered while she was working in-person at another job.
Mazeika also claimed to have provided services to an individual on dates when that individual was present at a long-term, in-patient care facility, per the release.
“Illinois’ Home Services Program provides essential services to thousands of Illinoisans with disabilities, allowing them to remain in their homes,” Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in the release.
“It is unconscionable that someone would exploit this vital program for their own financial gain. I will continue to work with state government partners to identify fraud and hold those accountable who steal from taxpayers and our most vulnerable residents.”
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Duffy will be prosecuting the case on behalf of the Medicaid Fraud Bureau, who conducted the initial investigation.
The Illinois Department of Human Services originally referred the case to the Attorney General’s Office.
According to the news release, Mazeika’s next scheduled court appearance is June 23, 2026.
Mazeika is not currently in custody, according to Cook County Circuit Court records.
