After asking for community input, the city of Aurora has unveiled the names that will be given to the four baby falcons that recently hatched outside City Hall.
Residents got the chance to submit nominations for the names through May 11, then the top 10 submissions went to a vote that was open through Monday. After nearly 400 nominations and over 500 votes, four names rose to the top: Aurora, Sky, Hope and Vern, according to a city news release.
The other names, which were not chosen, included George, Amor, Fox, Galena, Wayne and Ringo.
Members of the public can watch Aurora, Sky, Hope and Vern — along with their parents, Dave and Vixen — live through the city’s 24-hour “Falcon Cam,” at: www.aurora.il.us/FalconCam
The baby falcons’ mother, Vixen, is a 5-year-old from a nest in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She began nesting in a crevice on the second floor of the exterior of Aurora City Hall in early April.
Dave, the falcons’ father, is an adult male peregrine who was fledged from a nest in Chicago in 2020, according to the city news release.
Information about the two falcons comes from The Field Museum in Chicago, which has them tagged and tracked, an Aurora spokesperson has said.
