Students raise money for La Grange shelter

Students in the Pre-vet Pre-Veterinary Animal Welfare Society at Elmhurst University recently hosted its Canine Care Walk on the university mall, raising money for Citizen Canine Dog Rescue in La Grange and offering information on animal welfare.

“The event was a massive success, with more than 50 attendees and many cute dogs,” sophomore Yadira Cervantes, PAWS president, shared in a news release. “It was amazing to see how many people came with their families to support our event and promote animal welfare.”

Family friendly activities on the 1-mile walk route included a dog photo booth, take-home plush animal station, face painting, and arts and crafts. Vendors and local rescues sold pet-themed products, introduced adoptable animals and provided information.

PAWS provides professional opportunities and development to pre-veterinary students at Elmhurst, as well as encouraging advocacy for animal-related topics, philanthropy and animal welfare. It creates dog toys from recycling clothing, hosts study sessions with therapy dogs and hosts supply drives.
