Laverna B. Drotziger, nee Netzel, 83, of Park Falls, WI, passed away unexpectedly during a recuperation period at Pleasant View Nursing Home.

Born in Butternut, WI in 1924, Laverna moved to Evanston, IL as a young adult to live with an aunt and work.

She met her future husband, Robert Drotziger (deceased), a commercial artist and illustrator, while he was playing piano at one of the local night spots.

They married and settled down in Berwyn, IL, following Mr. Drotziger’s tour of duty in WWII. Laverna participated in many church, school and community activities, and with her husband was one of the founders of the Berwyn Community Orchestra.

In 1967 the couple moved up to the Butternut area.

Laverna enjoyed handcrafts and cooking and produced many first place winners for the County Fairs.

Laverna was an active fundraiser and held several offices in the Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial), organizing benefits for persons who had needs of all kinds.

She and her husband sang in the choir and for friends to mark special occasions.

Laverna was active in the Alzheimer’s Support Group, and organized fund-raising walks and an information seminar to help educate people about the disease.

She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Laverna is survived by devoted daughter, Linda (John) Kubitz of Lombard, IL and loving son, Michael of Wheaton, IL; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; cousins; and many close friends.

Laverna devoted her life to caring for her family, serving God, and helping others where ever she saw a need.

Funeral Services are planned for Saturday, Oct. 27 at Peace Lutheran Church of Park Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour.
