High pressure settled across the Great Lakes region over the weekend, bringing weather more characteristic of autumn. Temperatures over the two-day period averaged 60.5 degrees, which was still about 2.5 degrees above normal, though 22 degrees cooler than the previous weekend. Saturday’s high of 68 represented a drop of 27 degrees from the week before. Despite the cool-down, we’re not quite finished with summerlike weather. Patchy high and mid-level cloudiness covered much of the Midwest by late Sunday, signaling the approach of warmer air. A cold front extending south from a low-pressure center over southern Canada will inch its way eastward in coming days. Until its arrival midweek, south winds will sweep July-level, 80-degree temperatures across our area.
