Annual ‘Walk to Remember’ to be virtual this year
The 16th annual “A Walk to Remember,” held by Edward Hospital’s SHARE group, is going virtual this year.
Participants will walk their chosen route on or about Oct 10, the day on which an online memorial service will be held on Oct. 10 to remember babies lost in miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or neonatal death, a news release said.
In the service, each child’s name will be read and there will be music, poetry and photos of walk participants submitted via email and the group’s Facebook page, the release said.
Participants will pick-up a packet with program information prior to the event that includes the Facebook Live link.
To register, go to www.EEHealth.org/walktoremember. For more information about SHARE, go to www.EEHealth.org/SHAREResources.
Proceeds from the walk will fund counseling services, bereavement training and education, and the Wings of Hope Angel Garden at Edward Hospital.

DuPage board OKs $300k for flu shots for uninsured residents
The DuPage County Board has approved spending $300,000 this year to provide flu vaccinations for residents who have no insurance.
The program will be overseen by the DuPage Health Coalition, which will work with healthcare providers to administer the vaccines, a county news release said.
“As our fight against COVID-19 extends into the traditional flu season, we know preventing the spread of influenza will protect our residents and reduce the burden on our hospital systems,” County Board member Sam Tornatore, president of the DuPage County Board of Public Health, said in the release.
Funding for the program will come out of the $161 million the county received from the federal government through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
Information on the vaccination program will be posted on the county’s website when it becomes available.
D204 School Board earns governance recognition
The Indian Prairie District 204 School Board is one of 15 school districts to earn School Board Governance Recognition in 2020 through the Illinois Association of School Boards.
A school board maintains the award for two years before it may apply again. Indian Prairie previously earned the honor in 2018.
The IASB program acknowledges school boards that learn and practice behaviors as identified in the state organization’s Foundational Principles of Effective Governance.
Naperville District 203 was one of 20 school boards to receive recognition in 2019.

DuPage County cancels this year’s fall trout season
The DuPage Forest Preserve District has canceled the fall trout season at its three rainbow trout lakes because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Due to concerns about appropriate social distancing related to parking, fishing and general preserve use, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has decided to cancel the fall trout opener at our three forest preserve trout lakes,” Forest Preserve District Community Relations Director Tony Martinez said in a news release.
The three trout lakes — Silver Lake at Blackwell, Pickerel Lake at Pratt’s Wayne Woods, and Grove Lake at Wood Dale Grove — will not be stocked with trout this fall, fisheries ecologist Dan Grigas said in the release.
However, fishing is still available at about 30 DuPage forest preserve lakes. Creel limits, depth maps and species lists are in the district’s “Fishing in DuPage County” guide, which is available online at www.dupageforest.org or by calling 630-933-7248 or sending email to forest@dupageforest.org.
