An Elgin man was one of three to be arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in the Calumet-Sag Channel more than three years ago, Illinois State Police said.

Antoine D. Lovelace, 44, also was charged with felony aggravated unlawful restraint and concealment of a homicidal death Tuesday in connection with the death of 35-year-old Carl E. Gordon Jr., of Belvidere.

His co-defendants are Jerrell T. Burnett, 43, of Chicago, and Cody J. Matthews, 29, of Marengo, who are facing the same charges.

Gordon’s body was found in the Cal-Sag about 8 p.m. June, 18, 2020, the state police report said. He died of multiple gunshot wounds after last being see in Joliet, where he had his motorcycle serviced, according to police reports.

No other information on the death or the investigation that led to the charges will be released, officials said.

The three men were indicted in Will County last week and taken into custody Tuesday, Sept. 19, the report said. Lovelace is being held in the Will County jail and the other two suspects are awaiting extradition from other states.

Among the agencies credited with assisting in the bust were the Joliet, Blue Island, Calumet Park, Palatine, Chicago and Franklin, Ohio, police departments; Will, Winnebago, Boone, Cook county sheriff’s offices and jails; Alsip and Blue Island fire departments; Pennsylvania and Indiana state police; Illinois Department of Corrections, Department of Natural Resources and Statewide Gaming Command; U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. North Central Narcotics Task Force and the FBI; and the Northampton County (Pennsylvania) Department of Corrections.
