
Tree identification walk At AWLI’s winter fest
The Association for the Wolf Lake Initiative (AWLI) will host the 23rd annual Winter Wonderland festival Saturday at Eggers Grove Forest Preserve, 11251-11249 S. Ave. E, Chicago. The event will feature a tree identification walk at 1:30 p.m. Marianne Kozlowski, co-steward of Eggers Grove, will lead the walk. The entrance to Eggers Grove is at East 112th Street and South Avenue E, Chicago. After entering the forest preserve, drive to the stop sign at the T-intersection and turn left. Drive past the brick caretaker’s building into the east lot, and park.

PNW to celebrate MLK Day with community conversations, service
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites the public to join its annual celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. PNW will host community conversations and a keynote speaker on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as facilitate volunteer community service opportunities on Friday and Monday. A free Unity Breakfast will be held on Thursday at PNW’s James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex, 1401 S. U.S. 421, Westville. Author Kevin Powell, a 2024 Grammy-nominated poet, will serve as keynote speaker for PNW’s MLK Day recognition. Powell also will provide his keynote at 9 a.m. on Thursday inside the Great Hall at the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on PNW’s Westville branch campus, 1401 S. League of Women Voters to host monthly meeting
The League of Women Voters of Porter County will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 N. Washington, Valparaiso. Parking and access to the building are at the back of the church on Lafayette Street. The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss plans, volunteer for activities and learn more about the League’s mission. The public is invited to attend. Warm up to winter at Chellberg Farm
Try out snowshoeing and wander through a winter wonderland from 1 to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in January at Chellberg Farm, 709-747 N. Mineral Springs Road, Porter. Stop by the farmhouse to warm up and learn about the area’s history. A limited number of snowshoes will be available for check out at the farmhouse. Snowshoeing is dependent on the amount of snow on the ground with a minimum of three inches of snow required. Regardless of snow, the farmhouse will be open for hikers to stop by and enjoy. Valpo to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Valparaiso University invites the campus community and members of the public to attend their annual event to honor the memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday on campus, 1700 Chapel Drive, Valparaiso. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Realizing the Dream Through Healing and Resilience.” Speakers at the event include Morgan M. Medlock, M.D., M.Div., MPH, director of community outreach and engagement for Howard University Hospital’s psychiatry department. Events will include: Convocation, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection; Focus Sessions, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Harre Union Ballrooms; and Children Programming, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Harre Union.
