A DuPage County sheriff’s office corrections officer has been arrested on charges he distributed child sexual abuse images, officals said.

Steven M. Simmons, 32, of Lisle, who is a corrections corporal, faces three counts of disseminating child sexual abuse material involving children under the age of 13 and one count of disseminating child sexual abuse material, both felonies, a news release from the offices of the Illinois attorney general and the DuPage County state’s attorney said.

State investigators, accompanied by officers from the Lake County sheriff’s office and the Lisle Police Department, did a search Tuesday of Simmons’ Lisle residence in the 5500 block of Lakeside Drive and uncovered evidence of child sexual abuse material, the release said.

The two offices plan to prosecute the case jointly.

“Child exploitation is a horrific crime that is made even more reprehensible when the alleged offender is entrusted by the public to serve as a county correctional officer,” Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement. “I remain committed to ensuring victims and their families receive the justice they deserve by holding the offenders who commit these crimes accountable — no matter who they are.”
