A Gurnee woman was charged with DUI after her passenger was killed in a crash with a semi early Saturday on Interstate 94 in Lake County, according to authorities.
The coroner’s office identified the dead woman as Maria Conchita Perez, 35, of Waukegan.
She was a passenger in an SUV that hit the rear of a semi on the interstate at about 5 a.m. Saturday, according to police. The SUV was travelling west in the right-hand lane when it hit the semi, according to the Illinois State Police.
The crash happened near Belvidere Road at mile marker 11.75, police said.
Perez and the driver of the vehicle, Priscilla M. Martinez, 29, were transported to a hospital, where Perez was pronounced dead.
Police arrested Martinez after she was discharged. She has been charged with driving under the influence involving death, police said.
