A man is in critical but stable condition following a shooting in Aurora early Monday morning, according to the Aurora Police Department.
At around 3:24 a.m. on Monday, Aurora police officers responded to a report of shots fired near River Street and Sard Avenue, a news release from the police department said. In addition to multiple 911 calls, a ShotSpotter alert indicated that there had been gunfire in the area, according to police.
Upon arrival, officers found a man on the Gilman Trail with a lower body gunshot wound, police said. Officers rendered aid until Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived, according to the release.
The man was then taken to a local hospital and later transferred to another facility, where he remains in critical but stable condition, the department said Monday afternoon. No other injuries were reported.
Officers secured the scene and located evidence consistent with gunfire nearby, the news release from the police department said, and evidence technicians processed the scene and collected forensic evidence. Detectives from the department’s Investigations Bureau also responded and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, police said.
There was no suspect in custody as of Monday afternoon, a police department spokesperson confirmed.
The investigation into the incident remains active, but the department said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the broader community based on preliminary information.
