Mayor Rahm Emanuel joined mourners today at the funeral of a 13-year-old boy who was gunned down while playing basketball in a park in the Bronzeville neighborhood.
Emanuel shook hands with friends and family of Darius Brown at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church.
Darius was killed a week ago while playing in a five-on-five, full-court basketball game at Metcalfe Park. He had just high-fived a teammate for scoring a basket when gunfire erupted from a passing car and he was hit in the neck.
No one has been arrested despite a $10,000 reward.
Police have released a surveillance video image from a nearby building that shows a white car — described as a late-model four-door sedan — that was near the park when Darius was killed.
